Welcome to Cat Conservation Trust in the beautiful, rolling, malaria-free Karoo countryside 60k,m north west of the quaint and historic little town of Cradock and only 100 km east of Graaff-Reinet, with a healthy climate lies Clifton Game Farm, the home of Cat Conservation Trust.
Cat Conservation Trust is also home to a program designed to protect and bring to public awareness the lesser known cats of the Karoo: the Caracal (South African Lynx), the African Wild Cat (the ancestor of the modern domestic cat), the Small Spotted Cat and the unusual looking Serval.
Accommodation is offered on a B&B, self or fully catered basis. We can accommodate a maximum of 18 guests.
Rondavels - There is a thatched rondavel complex which can sleep a maximum of seven people. This has three en-suite bedrooms, two doubles and one with a double and a single bed. The rooms are very comfortable and fully furnished with all amenities (hot and cold water, flush toilets, showers, warm beds, bedding, towels, soap, toilet paper, electric heaters). The Rondavels are mainly for guests who also want meals. We can now offer an outdoor catering around for rondavel guests who would prefer to do their own catering. It is situated under a 100+ year old pear tree in the garden! A canvas & wood roofed area that has a bar fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, 2 plate hot plate and outside braai.
Bush Cottages - The 2 Cottages have an outside braai & gas skottel braai which can be moved under a verandah if there should be rain, strong wind or for shade. There is NO stove. There is a 2 plate hot plate, electric kettle for coffee, a toaster and microwave are inside and it is fine to use these indoors. Cottages also have a bar fridge with a small freezer section. One cottage with double bed and 2 singles in the lounge & en suite bathrooms. The other cottage has a room with 2 single beds, en-suite and lounge.
Lodge room - This open plan self catering unit contains 2 single beds and 1 double bed with a kitchen area. Bathroom is ensuite with a rock shower and toilet. This room is situated next to the lodge and is in the original "Wagenhuis" built in the late 1800's. We have kept all the original features. The unit has a bar fridge, 2 plate hot plate, kettle, toaster, microwave and outside braai. With with all amenities (hot and cold water, flush toilets, showers, warm beds, bedding, towels, soap, toilet paper, electric heaters).
Small Lodge Room - This single unit contains one single bed with en-suite bathroom with all amenities (hot and cold water, flush toilets, showers, warm beds, bedding, towels, soap, toilet paper, electric heaters). It is situated next to the Family Lodge room. It does not have self catering facilities.
Please note that there is no cleaning service when self-catering. For obvious reasons we do not want the heavy smell of meat frying etc inside the rondavels or cottages and we request that you use the outside braai facilities. A lodge with lounge and dining area are available. Our Lodge braai and bonfire area is situated near very old pear trees and you have great game viewing from here. Some of the Pear trees here are over 100 years old. The swimming pool is situated next to Rondavel complex.
In addition to the peace and quiet of the vast Karoo scenery, there are opportunities for hiking and birding, the wonderful game viewing thanks to the vast numbers and great diversity of species as well as the rare species found only here. Cat Conservation Trust is a guest farm cum wildlife experience with something a little different.
